A short drive inland towards Mogán valley and into a tiny place called El Tostador in the south west of Gran Canaria is where you will find Restaurante Acaymo. I have driven past this place several times on the way to Tasarte and Veneguera but this was the first visit and I was impressed!
The first thing I noticed, walking over to the restaurant was the huge log wood pile. It was lovely and sunny when we arrived around 5pm but the Winter sun soon passed behind the mountain, so I'd advise you to take a cardigan or light jacket for evenings.
Restaurante Acaymo offers a selection of local and typical Canarian food. We ordered several dishes to share, a mixed salad, Canarian potatoes, garlic mushrooms, chorizo, and padron peppers.

Papas con mojo // Wrinkled Canarian potatoes with red mojo sauce
These papas con mojo were absolutely delicious, I could tell they were fresh and locally sourced.
Champiñones al ajillo // Garlic Mushrooms
The garlic mushrooms arrived at our table still sizzling from the kitchen. They had a great flavour to them, I can still taste them now!
Chorizo parrillero // chorizo grilled then boiled with onions and peppers
We also had a plate of ‘Pimientos de padron' (Padron peppers in rock salt) but I must have been so hungry that we started eating those before I could take a photo. They were really tasty by the way.
After a bit of each plate, we were too full for a ‘postre' (dessert) or coffee, but we must try Acaymo's infamous Mexican coffee on our next visit!
The staff were lovely, genuine, friendly and efficient, it was service with a smile. The decor was traditional Canarian style with garlic hanging from the ceiling and a quirky feature: the walls are covered in hundreds of business cards from around the world from happy clients.
