Driving through Maspalomas, past Aqualand and towards Palmitos Park is where you will find La Cabañita Park Restaurant Grill. We first visited a few years ago to celebrate one of many Champions League win for Real Madrid. It's a lovely restaurant off the beaten path but not too far up in the mountains and in the perfect location.
We since visited again in February 2023 with family and were happy to see that this Canarian restaurant has kept its charm and the food is still delicious. Photos have been updated along with the bill and opening hours.
At the entrance, there is so much to see, traditional decor, with plants and old Canarian farm tools decorating the outside dining area. It is like being invited into a secret garden on a local farmhouse or finca as it's known here. On the rare cooler days or for those who prefer to sit inside, there is interior seating with large windows and view into the garden areas.

We ordered some drinks, water from Gran Canaria's holy village Teror, then perused the menu. To give you an idea of prices, a plate of papas con mojo (wrinkled Canarian potatoes with red mojo sauce) are only 3,90€, more importantly they are delicious! (Back in 2014 they were 3,80€ so prices haven't budged).
We've included the bill at the end of the post so you can get an idea of what to expect, for 4 people this was plenty of food as a tapa. There are meat volcanos and larger dishes to enjoy if you feel like something a bit more filling.
The different flavours of spicy Argentinian chorizo sausage, papas con mojo, mixed salad, cheese plate and sizzling garlic mushrooms complimented each other nicely. If you aren't sure where to start when ordering Canarian food for the first time, then this is a good place to start. Try some seafood on your visit if possible! Our favourite and in our opinion, best fish restaurant in Gran Canaria is Bar Playa El Boya in El Pajar.
The service was great, we weren't waiting long for dinner and as we enjoyed our drinks could smell the chorizo being cooked on the grill. The smoke from the grill floats up above the restaurant and you actually see it from the car park.
There was a WIFI sign on the restaurant door, but there's no phone signal here, this turned out to be a good thing and full attention was on our lunch and family time. This is great if you are looking to switch off and just eat dinner in nice quiet surroundings without interruptions.
La Cabañita Park have a small bar area on the entrance where you can enjoy the traditional Canarian decor and relax. This place is full of character and definitely worth the visit. If you don't have time to visit the highest point of the island, at least come here and experience the atmosphere of the large ravine, mountains and local cuisine.
Obviously we couldn't try all of the food (looks like another visit is on the cards), but if you are looking for delicious grilled foods with some typical Canarian dishes and tapas, this place is worth the visit and it's very picturesque. There's even a bouncy castle for the kids.
We just turned up on the day but it might be best to make a reservation on busier days to avoid any disappointment. Especially on the days with live music. The contact details are below.

Below is the bill from our visit. This was tapas food and drink for 4 people, house wine is 3,50€ per glass and a glass bottle of still water is 2,20€. The most expensive item on our bill was the garlic mushrooms at 8,50€ and they were well worth it. We hope this helps you when deciding to dine here and show you that you can get delicious local food at a very reasonable price.
